Calm that you can carry with you
Counseling and clinical hypnosis for anxiety, panic and stress — from a licensed clinician who has helped people in the Rockford area since 1976. You’ll leave with tools you can use on your own, not just a good hour in the office.
When anxiety runs the show
Anxiety can show up as constant worry, a racing heart, trouble sleeping, tight shoulders, or panic that seems to come out of nowhere. Often you know the fear is bigger than the situation — but knowing that doesn’t switch it off. That’s because anxiety lives as much in the body’s alarm system as in your thoughts.
How hypnosis helps with anxiety
Clinical hypnosis works directly with that alarm system. In a relaxed, focused state you learn what calm feels like from the inside — and how to get back there on purpose. Combined with counseling, sessions focus on:
- Turning down the stress response, with breathing, imagery and self-hypnosis you can use in the moment.
- Rehearsing hard situations, mentally practicing the meeting, flight, exam or appointment so it feels manageable before it happens.
- Changing the inner script, replacing “what if” spirals with steadier, more realistic thinking.
- Getting to the root, when past experiences or trauma are feeding today’s anxiety, using approaches such as EMDR when appropriate.

Hypnosis for anxiety: FAQ
Can hypnosis help with anxiety?
For many people, yes. Hypnosis teaches the body to shift out of its stress response and gives you a dependable way to calm down. It works best as part of counseling, alongside practical skills for the thoughts and situations that drive the anxiety.
Is hypnosis a replacement for medication?
Not necessarily. Some people use hypnosis and counseling instead of medication; others use them alongside it. Never stop or change a medication without talking to your prescriber. James is glad to coordinate with your doctor.
What kinds of anxiety do you help with?
General worry, panic attacks, stress, social and performance anxiety, test anxiety, health and medical anxiety, fears and phobias (flying, driving, needles, dental work), and anxiety connected to trauma.
What if I’m too anxious to relax?
That’s a very common worry, and it’s fine. You don’t have to be calm to start. Sessions go at your pace, you stay aware and in control the whole time, and relaxation tends to come more easily with practice.
How long does it take?
It depends on what you’re dealing with. The focus is short-term and practical, and many people notice they have more tools for handling anxiety early on. You’ll discuss a plan at the start.
Can I do sessions by Zoom?
Yes. Many people with anxiety find it easier to start from home. Sessions are available over Zoom or in person in Rockford.
